Missouri provides many options for transportation within its borders, and its central location in the
nation’s Heartland makes it a major hub. Major automobile routes include four Interstates: east-west
routes I-70, I-64, and I-44; and north-south routes I-29, I-35, and I-55.
Major transit agencies provide commuters with public transportation in St. Louis and Kansas City.
The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority
provides 70 bus routes serving approximately 50,000 passengers per day. St. Louis offers the Metro, with a fleet of 432 MetroBuses and 87 MetroLink light rail vehicles, as
well as 110 paratransit vans.
Intercity rail service is provided by Amtrak,
which offers Missouri routes with the Kansas City Mule and St. Louis Mule, with daily travel
between St. Louis and Kansas City, and the Ann Rutledge with travel between Kansas City and Chicago,
Illinois.
Intercity bus service can be obtained via Burlington Trailways, Greyhound,
and Jefferson Lines.
